Where did you grow up? My early childhood was spent on the Caribbean island of Grenada, where I was born. When I was 8, my mother and I moved to East Flatbush in Brooklyn. I lived in New York for 20 years. I got my internal palette from the Caribbean and my external confidence from New York.

Where do you live? I live in San Francisco, in a neighborhood called Hayes Valley. The city has changed a lot in the last couple of years, but Hayes had remained a close community of long-time residents and small businesses. I live in a city with some of the most talented people I know.

Your star sign? I’m a Libra. Balance, baby. A little bit of country and a little bit of rock and roll.

Your personal sound track at the moment? Blood Orange (Dev Hynes) is kind of my music spirit animal. It’s a mash-up of all of the 70s 80s and 90s sounds I grew up listening. Its dramatic, melodic and real. It’s glorious.

Who is you style icon? Grace Jones. I feel like she remains one of the least appreciated and most influential fashion icon/artist living today. I’ve been her in concert several times and no one does it better. She always surprises, and never for a gimmick.

What would you like to do when you grow up? Exactly what I’m doing: I’m a working artist. I’m very fortunate.
